The coin identifier app for iPhone and Android
Snap or upload a photo of a coin. Coin Checker identifies it, reads the year and mint mark, helps you spot rare and error coins, and gives an estimated value and grade, labelled as estimates.
Four answers from one scan.
Identify
Name, origin, year, mint mark and rarity, matched against a database of 300,000+ coin types from around the world.
Estimate the value
An estimated market value with an estimated grade. Use it as a guide; the value pages on this site show sourced ranges by condition.
Spot errors
Built to help you discover rare and error coins. The value pages add the diagnostics: where to look, and the magnet and scale tests for the famous ones.
Track the collection
Build a personal collection, organise it by series, rarity or value, and track its total worth over time.
What the app does not do.
Written here so nobody finds out after paying.
Certified grade.
The grade is an estimated condition grade (not a certified grade). PCGS and NGC grade the coin in hand; buyers pay for their number, not the app's.
Authenticator.
A photo cannot prove a 1943 copper cent is genuine. The magnet and weight tests on the 1943 copper penny page come first, then PCGS or NGC.
Buyer or a price promise.
Values are reference ranges, not offers. Dealers pay less than guide prices for common coins and more for the right rare one.
Free to download. Premium with a free trial.
Premium has a weekly plan with a 3-day free trial and a yearly plan with a 7-day free trial, according to the App Store listing. The store shows the exact price in your currency before you subscribe; the FAQ page covers cancelling and refunds.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Coin Checker app free?
Yes, Coin Checker: Coin Identifier is free to download on the App Store and Google Play, with an optional Premium subscription: a weekly plan with a 3-day free trial or a yearly plan with a 7-day free trial, according to the App Store listing. The store shows the exact price in your currency before you subscribe.
Which coins can it identify?
Coins from around the world, matched against a database of 300,000+ coin types, in the words of the store listing. If a coin is not recognised, photograph it again on a plain background in even light; for a rare variety or error, confirm with PCGS or NGC before you trust the result.
How accurate is the value?
The value is an estimate. Treat it as a guide for common coins and a starting point for rare ones; a rare variety or a high grade should be confirmed by PCGS or NGC before you rely on the number. The value pages on this site show sourced price ranges by condition.
Does it detect error coins?
The app is built to help you discover rare and error coins, in the words of its store listing. A photo can suggest an error, but small varieties such as repunched mint marks need a loupe, and the value pages on this site list the varieties to check for each date and where to look.
Can I keep track of my collection?
Yes. The App Store listing describes building and managing a personal coin collection, organising it by series, rarity or value, and tracking its total worth over time.
How do I cancel the subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by the store, not by us. iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Coin Checker → Cancel. Android: Play Store → profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. Cancelling keeps Premium until the end of the paid period.
