Made by the team behind several scanner apps for collectors. This site is the reference half: values with sources, varieties with tests, and plain statements of what an app can and cannot know.
Coin Checker: Coin Identifier is built by Blueberry Web Solutions Pvt. Ltd., an app studio in Kolkata, India, which also makes scanner and identifier apps for collectors. Coin Checker grew out of the same recognition work: photograph the thing, match it against a reference set, give an honest estimate.
How the values on this site are compiled
- Every value page names its source and check date. Ranges come from published price guides and recent auction and dealer sales. When a figure is a record auction price for a single top-grade coin, the page says so.
- Mintages, compositions and weights come from US Mint records and standard references, and are the numbers the tests on each page depend on.
- Varieties are described with the diagnostic: where the doubling shows, which direction the repunched mint mark sits, what the coin should weigh. If we cannot describe the test, we do not list the variety.
- Pages are re-checked. The ten most-read pages are re-verified every month, the rest on a rolling schedule, and the "values checked" date only changes when someone has actually re-checked.
What we will not claim
That a photo can authenticate a rare coin; that an estimated grade equals a certified one; that a value is an offer to buy; or that any coin "could be worth millions" when the realistic answer is a few dollars. The headline-grabbing articles exist; this site is the one you check them against.
